The Principle of Design in art

Following are the principles of design

  • Unity
  • Rhythm
  • Harmony
  • Balance
  • Perspective
  • Proportion

Let’s dive in on these principles of art in a little deep

Principle of Design - Unity

Unity is a principle of design in art that makes various elements of art bind together

and look like one single art.

As in elements of art, we can combine colour, shape, and line elements to create

one image, but until there is unity in them it won't appear meaningful.

Unity is the usage and placement of different elements of art together in harmony

to give a sense of oneness.

Principle of Design - Rhythm

Rhythm is a principle of design that creates movement with the help of elements

of design such as shape, line etc in a repetitive format.

You can find rhythm in a wall tile, wallpaper designs etc.

Principle of Design - Harmony

Harmony is a principle of design that creates a seamless look and feel in the

creative. This is achieved by the use of colour, shape, and form with repetitive

use alongside.

Principle of Design - Balance

Balance is a principle of design that helps keep harmony, rhythm proportion

principles of design in check.

Balance as it sounds balances all the elements of design such as shape, line,

and texture in a balanced way in art.

For Example, our face is a systematic balance on both the left and right side

Principle of Design - Prospective

Prospective is a principle of design that give dimensions to any art or graphics.

This is mostly used when working with elements of design such as form, shape,

and curve. It is used to give a two-dimensional or three-dimensional perspective

to any art or design.

Examples of the Prospective principle of design are a house, room, table, and chair,

where length, breadth and height play a vital role.

Principle of Design - Proportion

Proportion is a principle of design that makes the art, and graphics look balanced.

When using two or more identical elements of graphics such as using two shapes

say a circle and a cube, the proportion principle applies, to give it a rhythm and

balanced look and feel.
